FAQs

What insights do audio clips provide?

To the best of our judgement, every audio clip posted on this site is a representative sample of how a particular professor teaches.

*Dynamics/Enthusism - Does this professor keep my attention by speaking dynamically or bore me by speaking monotonously? If they can't keep your attention from an audio clip, chances are you will have trouble being alert in the class.

*Character - How do they approach teaching the class? This usually comes out in their tone and their word choice. Do they mix-in personal philosophy and stories or do they sound like teaching is secondary to research?

What is his/her lecture intensity level?
How good is he/she at answering questions?
Does he/she seem to be making sense? Or is it hard to follow along?

All these questions can be answered with a live audio recording of him/her teaching in action. They cannot be answered by any other review sites out there. And of course, you can listen to and compare multiple professors against each other in these areas and see how you respond.

Why was this site created?

This site was created by two Georgia Tech students who always found it difficult to determine which professor to choose from when there was a choice, especially in the bigger classes that are required. There is a night and day difference between a great professor and a bad one. The quality of the professor can determine your exitement about going to class, overal enthusiasm and interest in the subject, and of course, how well you learn the material.

Given that premise, a lot is at stake when chosing a professor. It is a massive time investment on your behalf--would you rather spend the entire semester with a great professor or a not-so-great one?

We have always thought the typical "aids" out there (subjective word-of-mouth, average GPA, etc) were surprisingly poor methods for predicting which professor we would end up rather taking. This is because a professor's teaching ability, character, and overall effectiveness cannot be summed up with GPA statistics. The knowledge and understanding you take away from a class is ultimately the most important thing--it's why we're at college in the first place.

These are the reasons we took it upon ourselves to fix the situation we are all in: blindly registering for classes when we know nothing about the professor.

What is the quality of the audio files?

Our audio files are all very high quality recordings that pick up exactly what you would hear were you sitting in the class. The 16-bit audio files were recorded with a sample rate of 44.1 kHz.

Is this legal?

Yes. In compliance with Fair Use guidelines, these short audio clips are portions of copywritten material to be used for comment, critique, and education.
